I have set myself a goal – to restore to life the former Riga Opera Theater where Richard Wagner used to work. To restore the hall which inspired Wagner to have several marvelous ideas which he later put to use in developing his opera theater in Bayreuth.

GOAL #1

Reconstruct the building of the Riga City Theater on Riharda Vāgnera iela 4, renovating its theater auditorium.

Set up a Richard Wagner museum in the building.

To deepen the public’s understanding of Richard Wagner’s works and life.

Set up a Richard Wagner scholarship fund to support the new generation of Latvian musicians.

The founding members of the society include Egīls Siliņš, opera singer. Māris Gailis, former Prime Minister, founder of Žanis Lipke Museum, experienced real estate developer and entrepreneur. Māris Krastiņš, government employee, MP of two parliament convocations and other prominent members of society.

ABOUT US

The “Riga Richard Wagner Society” (hereinafter, “the Society”) was founded at the end of 2014 for the purpose of reconstructing the Riga City Theater building at Riharda Vāgnera iela 4, to renovate the theater hall, adjusting it to the needs of chamber concerts and theater performances, to develop a Richard Wagner Museum in Riga, promote understanding of the works and life of Richard Wagner, and support the scholarship fund established in compliance with the wishes of Richard Wagner himself.
